“You can’t choose if you will serve, only who you will serve.”

(24)  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Explanation

Jesus is explaining to disciples that they can devote themselves to God or to “mammon” (i.e., money; whatever this world has to offer). This is an either/or, not a both/and, proposition.
